Music

Make a joyful noise …

Our music program is truly unique and ranges from Bach to bluegrass –  and almost everything in between.

An occasional choir performs an anthem for Sunday worship and most weeks a different ensemble of talented volunteers or a solo singer or musician contributes to the worship experience.

We are blessed to have two professional accompanists, pianist Peter O’Connor and organist Laurel Buckwalter.

Our church houses a Moller Organ which was originally given to the community of Alfred. In 1930, Sara Burdick Rosebush’s sons wanted to give an organ to the community to honor their mother who was a talented musician. Lacking a better place to house it, and because the church’s 1886 Steer & Turner organ was burned in the Palm Sunday fire of 1929, the Moller was installed in the church.

Over the years both UUC and the First Alfred Seventh Day Baptist Church have assisted with organ restoration projects such as replacing the leathers, removing the pipes for cleaning, and rewiring the electronics. Our organist, Laurel Buckwalter, is “one of those talented organists who knows how to use all the keys, pedals, and stops to make incredibly beautiful music.”

All in the church are invited to participate in bell choirs.
